UK WOLF CONSERVATION TRUST.

UKWCT LogoThe UK Wolf Conservation Trust (UKWCT) is an organization dedicated to the education of others about the wolf, and to allow people to interact with them on a personal level. The wolf has been persecuted for hundreds of years in the States and in Europe, mainly due to western religion marking the animals as evil and dangerous. This is far from the true nature of the wolf, and there has never been one recorded attack by a healthy wolf on a human in Northern America. It's only when humans turned to farming and keeping livestock for food that the image of the wolf became a negative one. For other societies that were hunting based such as the Native Americans, the Wolf was honoured and revered as a superb hunter, and many Native Americans actually impersonated wolves when they were out hunting.

There are seven wolves currently owned by the Trust. The first pair are Kodiak and Kenai, male and female American timberwolves around six years old. Of the wolves currently kept by the Trust, this pair have been with them the longest. The next pair are a couple of younger timberwolves called Duma and Dakota, who are unrelated to the first pair and around three years old. The final trio are young European wolves, a male and two females called Alba, Lunca, and Latea. These wolves are younger still, but seem bigger and more intelligent than their American cousins.

The UKWCT is based in Beenham, Berkshire, and the Trust Directors are Charles Hicks, Roger Palmer, Tsa Palmer, Colin Thorne, and Nigel Toon. My thanks go to them and all the working members for allowing everyone to interact with these beautiful animals.
