THERIOMORPH COMMUNITY

There are many different forums for the discussion for Theriomorphic, Furry, and Shamanic beliefs on the Internet. While the below forums are by no means a complete listing of what's available, it does reflect a broad selection of what is available.

WEREMail Mailing List.

This list is aimed towards anything animal related, from conservation projects to totem spirituality and beyond. What makes the list unique is that membership has been limited to residents of Europe. Surprisingly WEREMail proved to be more successful because of this, and continues to receive regular postings. Information on how to join WEREMail can be found below.

alt.horror.werewolves.

Alt.horror.werewolves, more commonly known as AHWw, is a usenet newsgroup based loosely around the werewolf legend. It was originally created for the discussion of Werewolf literature as a logical extension of the 'alt.horror' hierarchy on November 16, 1992. However the newsgroup attracted people whose interest in lycanthropy was more than just reading or movies. It drew together people with lucid dreams about wolves, people who could induce mental states similar to that of the wolf, and people who felt a spiritual connection to wolves. This in turn attracted people who had an affinity with other types of animals, such as Felines, Foxes, Ravens, and even the odd Dragon. AHWw was not just for wolves, but for a collection of people who are interested in either lycanthropy, therianthropy, or spirituality which involves animals.

But now the group is not the supportive, positive and intellectual place that it was. As the Internet has become more popular and easier to use, younger and more immature people have joined the group. Posts which were thought provoking, challenging, and interesting to read are now replaced with the immature babble of children who have read too many comics, going on about vampire slayers and waking with other people's blood on them. It is no longer something most Weres feel a part of. In it's time however, it has generated some very comprehensive and informative FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) which are available below.

AHWw Poll Results The results from a questionnaire taken by pack members towards the end of 1997
AHWw Frequently Asked Questions Files:
AHWw "Mini" FAQ The shortest version of the FAQ file for the newsgroup, more an introduction than an FAQ.
AHWw "Core" FAQ The shortened version of the Frequently Asked Questions file for the newsgroup.
AHWw "Mini" FAQs Not to be confused with the Mini FAQ, the Mini FAQs contain the Werebear, Wendigo, and Werecat FAQs.
AHWw "Resource" FAQ Information about lycanthropy in general, and lists of theriomorphic movies and books.
AHWw "Combined" FAQ The latest Core, Mini and Resource FAQs combined into one large FAQ. This FAQ is the recommended FAQ for reading.
AHWw "Old" FAQ A full yet rather dated, Frequently Asked Questions file for the newsgroup, which omits various additions to the FAQ after it was split up into separate FAQs. Included for "Historical Interest" only.

alt.lifestyle.furry

Alt.Lifestyle.Furry is a Usenet newsgroup which spans the gap between the Furry and Therianthropic domains. The group is more serious than the Furry "fandom" domains but it is less extreme than AHWw. Also it's more relaxed than AHWw but tends to be more off-topic and wandering.

Werenet IRC Server

Therianthropic discussion is not just limited to newsgroups, there are also on-line discussion groups such as the Werenet IRC Server. Werenet IRC was the main IRC server for AHWw packmembers, but now various other servers are springing up. It includes a few specialist channels such as a UK specific and P-Shift channel. This forum uses normal IRC software such as mIRC, and to access IRC Werenet set your software to point at the following address;

"irc.were.net port 6666"

Further Info:

Werenet IRC Website Official website to the IRC server. Includes instructions on how to connect.
Werenet JAVA IRC Allows connections to the IRC server using a JAVA capable browser, eliminating the need for an IRC program.

Lycanthrope IRC Server

This site is an extension to the www.lycanthrope.org website, and has become more popular over recent months. There is little to differ it from the Werenet, other than the less draconian reputation of the admin staff. The address is as follows;

"irc.lycanthrope.org port 6663"

Further Info:

Lycanthrope Website Website related to the IRC server.

FurNet IRC Server

Although this IRC server is mainly dedicated to Furry domains, it is also home to the Alt.Lifestyle.Furry channel on which most of the ALF members can be found. One of the more popular IRC sites around. The address is;

"irc.furnet.org port 6667"

Further Info:

FurNet IRC Website Official website to the IRC server. Includes instructions on how to connect.

On-line Resources

The World Wide Web is an almost endless source of mainly trivial and useless information. This is a collection of perhaps some of the more useful information out there.

Web Community Links to other Were and animal related websites.

If you know of any other forums out there, then please drop me a line and I'll add them to the list.
