Phoenix's WerecardFrom: freilaub@fast.net It all started with my grandfather. He was a medicine man for the Mandan Indian tribe. When I was seven, he guided me along on a spirit quest to find my spirit animal. I fasted for five days and on the fifth day, I entered the sweat lodge. I sat there for a long time not remembering why I was there. I then went into some sort of a trance where I had a dream. The dream was of the earth in a much decayed state. All of !a sudden the earth erupted into flame. While it was still burning, a phoenix arose from the core. To me it looked like a giant hawk with wings of fire. I then must have passed out. I told my grandfather the dream and he told me that my spirit animal, the hawk, had made himself known to me. I have never forgotten this. My grandfather died a year or so later and his death still saddens me, but I feel good knowing that I had this powerful experience with him. Now, about physical shifting. I, myself have never been able to(yet), but I am sure that it is a possibility. I have tried at times, and felt that I was very close. I do not think that I am ready to p-shift yet and that is what is holding me back. One day I am sure that it will happen. I take my animal side very seriously and I find that it is easier for me to make friends with animals that with humans. I do not mind this. I could be content without humans, but I somehow think that I would! miss their presence(at least some of them). I recently found alt.horror.werewolves and was at once elated. I felt like I found a home. I felt like I could be secure among others without them judging me for being and acting different. I am glad that there are places for weres where they are not hunted or shunned.
